How it all started

Founder & CEO
Joe joined NatWest at 19 and spent 16 years in banking and finance, the last five running Lombard’s leisure marine portfolio. A lifelong sailor with more than 8,000 nautical miles logged — including an Atlantic crossing from Gosport to the Caribbean — he founded SALT to make buying a boat simpler.
Greg Chiappini
Chief Operating Officer
Greg brings legal and commercial experience to SALT’s operations. He was previously head of aviation and marine at Lombard, and before that head of specialist asset management, giving him an in-depth knowledge of the asset finance market.
Rob Cottingham
Chief Risk Officer
Rob leads risk and compliance at SALT. He was previously credit director at point-of-sale finance provider Duologi, and head of credit and risk for Europe at Elavon, bringing deep experience of credit risk in regulated lending.
Damien Shiells
Chief Technical Officer
Damien leads the technology behind the SALT app, with more than 15 years running and managing development teams. His focus is on listening to users and continually improving their experience of buying a boat.
Steve Vinall
Non-Exec Director
Steve is a consultant, advisor, coach and investor with a track record of building value and guiding organisational change. At SALT he has contributed across strategy and targeted project management.
Elliot Bishop
Non-Exec Director
Elliot is a consultant solicitor at W Legal in London, recognised by Chambers, the Legal 500 and the Spear’s Index. He specialises in multi-jurisdictional litigation and the enforcement of marine loan security for lenders, and brings legal and strategic perspective to the SALT board.
